Recipe: Third Culture Cocktail

It’s supposed to be a mojito, it looks like a long island, it tastes like something else entirely… it’s the third culture cocktail.

This recipe, a lot like a third culture kid is a complete mix up. Not only does it not have a true home but it is different for everyone. Around our table alone we had a number of opinions, from gummy Coke bottles to Long Island Iced tea and a whole heap of things in between, no one could put their finger on it but everyone absolutely loved it.

Born from an evening with friends this is the kind of drink that goes down well with almost anyone, rum drinker or not. A word of warning, the measurements are no accurate, just mix and taste and see how it goes and don’t forget your umbrella at the end.

Throwing together a variation of the classic mojito including rum, mint and a little brown sugar (and no not just because Nimmer dipped his finger in it) but we changed things up with spiced rum and bitter lemon.

Ingredients

Makes 1 large jug

• 1 bottle spiced rum
• 1 bunch of mint
• 6 limes
• 3 cans of bitter lemon
• 1l of Sprite
• 2tsp brown sugar

Method

• Muddle the mint, sugar and limes
• Add everything else and stir
• Drink and enjoy
