Christmas Review: Ruth’s Chris

With the holiday season literally right around the corner I am sure most people have already started making their Christmas day plans, but for those of you who are overwhelmed by choice or have just stuck your head in the sand in the hopes of avoiding the stress I have found the answer.

This year Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse in the Address Dubai Marina is cooking up an amazing four course meal throughout December that includes everything from their signature steak to a warming crab bisque all sprinkled with a little holiday cheer and I was lucky enough to enjoy a little sneak preview.

First things first, the starters. Diners can choose from either the Northwest Snow Crab Bisque which is absolutely moreish with a subtle bite and packed with fresh flavours or the Smoked Duck Breast Salad that is so artfully plated it seems a shame to eat it. The perfectly smoked duck is packed with subtle flavours and when paired with the sweetness of the dried apricots, the bite of the onion or the crunch of the potato it is a true experience for the palette.

The indulgent second course should come with a warning, or at least a personal waiter who can remove your plate when you’re starting to get too full! Each spoonful of this amazing pasta dish is just temptation for another; the cheese perfectly melted on the top, the sauce sparing but creamy and the pasta perfectly al dente…really I’d be happy with this and this alone.

Just be sure to exercise self control and save room for your main, you probably will not be able to enjoy the entire bowl if you want to clear your plate in the next course – remember, the food is rich and cooked to perfection.

The main course caters to almost every taste – though strangely without a vegetarian option listed. With a sumptious salmon dish, a classic turkey offering, a beautiful chicken meal and of course – because what would a meal at Ruth Chris be without it – the classic petite fillet, cooked to order (and perfection) served with fois gras. With each main comes a selection of side dishes including the best corn you will ever try and perfectly tender brussel sprouts.

Honestly I had a hard time picking just one of the mains but you can never go wrong with a steak, the only thing missing was one of their divine sauces – something festive like a cranberry and port or a redcurrent jus would not have gone amiss, perhaps with a hint of warming cinnamon…I’m getting carried away now.

As if the rest of the meal was not enough to leave you in need of that post Christmas dinner nap we all know and love there is then dessert. A rich chocolate cake with mint cream and an almond chocolate bark…think After Eight for cake lovers.

I enjoyed the fact that, while decadent, the dessert was not too rich or too huge because by the time it is served you have indulged in an awful lot and you are probably going to be struggling – both to fit it in and to put down your fork!

As someone who is not a particularly huge fan of Christmas dinner away from home – because there’s nothing better than fighting your brother for the bits and bobs in the kitchen while mum is cooking – I have to say I loved every minute of this meal. The atmosphere was warm, festive and it wasn’t even Christmas yet. So if you’re planning a Christmas with friends I would say Ruth’s Chris should be at the top of your list…reasonably priced and delightful food, what more could you want!
